If you area a Mac guy, you probably remember Apple gave a quick preview of Safari 4 for Mac and in June.
Well on Friday Apple released a Developer Preview of Safari 4.0 to all the developers for the stress testing phase for the new version.
The Developer Preview was released to all the current platforms Safari is running. This includes OSX Leopard, OSX Tiger, and the Windows version.
New Features
Safari 4.0 includes lots of performance enhancements and other interesting features. Some of the major ones include
- The next generation HTML 5 Features Supported
- Canvas Pixel Manipulation added
- Rich Internet Application Support. (WAI-ARIA)
- More support for Cross-Site XMLHttpRequest Specs
- Ability to Store Data Locally or just for a certain User Session
- Messages can be transmitted/send between documents
- There are some cool Cascading Style Sheet features. Including CSS Reflections, CSS Masks, and CSS Gradients
- You know those cool Web Apps. Well now you have the option to run them outside the browser window as well as the ability to run them when you are offline
- And lastly integration of SquirrelFish. For those who don’t know, with SquirrelFish technology, you will see a gigantic boost in JavaScript performance. A more responsive and fast JavaScript
A release date for the final version of Safari 4.0 has not been set yet. So keep your finger crossed.
