Intel Wireless PowerRecently Intel introduces Wireless Power. There is no cord carrying the power. All being transmitted in the air.

This is going to be the next big thing in electric power. Let me re-phrase that. It will be the biggest evolutionary change for your everyday power needs.

This year’s annual developer’s forum in San Francisco, CA, Intel’s Chief Technology officer Justin Rattner, demonstrated the Wireless Electric Power System.

The demo showed electricity being transfer over the air completely wireless to light a 60Watt lamp. The demo was perfect with out any hiccups.

This also showed that wireless power can be done with out any damage being done to anyone or anything between the transmitter and the receiving end.

How does it work?

According to one of Intel’s researches, Josh Smith - “The trick with wireless power is not can you do it; it’s can you do it safely and efficiently?

“It turns out the human body is not affected by magnetic fields; it is affected by elective fields. So what we are doing is transmitting energy using the magnetic field not the electric field.”

According to Mr. Smith, The transmitters can be attached or built into components such as computer displays, and other components to enable them to broadcast power to devices near them.

Examples include your cell phone on your desk or that PDA or iPhone in your pocket, etc. getting power from the wireless power units.

In the future you will see these systems being installed in airports, subways, and places where most people gather.

Although it looks like the the system is stable and ready for the consumer market soon, Intel said The Wireless Power System is still in the early stages of the development so they still need to run more deep tests to make sure everything is in perfect working order without any side effects.

In another words a perfect No Cord Power adapter for all your electronic devices in the future.

So. power using a magnetic field.designed by a computer parts company.don’t you think they would have figured out when they turned it on and their computer crashed….that the big-o-magnetic field didn’t really agree with hard drives?just a thought….i think i’ll be passing on that invention.

its pretty much a PR thing…this “technology” is already in use by sveral cool designed and expensive devices. this is simply induction…didnt u pay attention in school? ^^ as far as I know it wont kill your harddrive. u need like 1 tesla in order to do that. if your harddrive is unplugged for about 1-3 years even the natural magnetic field does erase data. furthermore im sure its harmfull but besides all the gasolin fumes and the thousands of electrical fields wie pass through, etc its not a big deal…you will have cancer anyways ^^

Hard disks are surrounded by a Faraday Cage. I am no expert but I know hard disks are rather resilient magnetic fields.
